May news: conversations, art, books, film.....
I won't say where the first Italian conversaton on a latin made life on May 7th hosted by Dharabliss took us except to say that OMNIA VINCIT AMOR. (Hint: Letizia Battaglia's Palermo, Gianni Amelio's Il ladro di bambini along the length of Italy, Gabbi Pavia's Verona-Melbourne crossings).
As my Chantilly Studio residency comes to a close, I'm happy to say that the book has a tentative title: Morsels from a Sicilian country kitchen. It's a journey of sustenance within the culture of food. More to come.
As small as an iphone and as slim but packed with punch. Might you be dreaming of a star-studded sky, an erupting volcano and a pyramid next to Brunelleschi's dome? Or are you reading: Spiazzamenti a collection of short stories I wrote while living in Ortygia, Sicily. (In Italian)
I recently spoke to Franco Di Chiera about his experience in Milan in 2015, there for the screening of his feature film Big Mamma's Boy. I had been invited to curate the Australian focus of the Milan film festival, Sguardi altrove in which a few Australian films screened. Franco Di Chiera is Investment manager at Film Victoria.
I am proud to say The Sguardi australiani Archive in Prato, Italy, conserves two films by Tracey Moffatt: Night Cries and Bedevil, subtitled in Italian. The films screened as part of Sguardi australiani in 2002, 2004 and in 2005. In 2005, Sguardi australiani featured Tracey Moffatt's films, along with a live performance by Hugo Race and a talk among critics Lorenzo Perrona, Alice Cantaluppi and Emanuela De Cecco. Tracey Moffatt is representing Australia at the Art Venice Biennale this year.
The films of Giorgio Mangiamele are also part of the Sguardi australiani Archive in Prato. The films are subtitled in Italian. Photographer or filmmaker? Australian or Italian? I invite you to discover who Giorgio Mangiamele was....
..
Finally, be sure not to miss the launch of L'altro se: opposizioni letterarie del sud by Lorenzo Perrona in Catania, Sicily, on Thursday May 25th
WITH LOVE.
