If a book is an entry, you wonder where to? It could be a dream, but we're breathing. Written words, spoken words, thoughts move with the subtlety of air. Could a “word” transform our sleepful state? Or is it symbolic for wakefulness? Vittorini, I believe, knew the word that moves inbetween, which is witness. A word without word is silence.
